Two Capitals Cycle Ride-Sunday 21st June 2009
Thank you for signing up for this exciting Scottish Cycling Event now in its second year. We hope you have a memorable day and a safe day’s cycling. This page contains important information and we ask you to read it carefully before you join us on the day.
Preperation Tips
Speed - Remember the SEStran two capitals ride is NOT a race. There are no medals for being first – just for taking part - and no prizes for bravery! Go at a pace you are comfortable with and enjoy the ride.
Traffic – Remember that most of the route will remain open to traffic. Obey the rules of the road at all times. If possible, brush up on the highway code before the event.
Breakdowns – Give your cycle a once over before the event and make sure it is in working order. Remember to carry a spare inner tube and a repair kit.
Health – The ride is not a race and should be doable by any person in good health, but if you have any doubts about your health, please consult a physician before signing up.
Training - Practice cycling regularly with gentle rides to begin with – say 30 minutes a day - and work up the point where you can manage a one or two hour ride without difficulty.
Clothing – Suitable clothing will depend upon what it is like on the day. Choose something comfortable that allows freedom of movement and that will keep you warm if it turns chilly. Bring a waterproof just in case. You are strongly advised to wear a helmet and reflective clothing.
Food & Drink – Cycling can be thirsty and hungry work. Stoke up the night before with a high-carb meal such as pasta, but don’t have a heavy meal before the start. Ensure you have a bottle of water with you and a snack. Your water can be topped up at any of the rest stops on the route.
Breakdowns – If you run into trouble on the route, stay on the course and await the arrival of a marshal. If you need to drop out for any reason, please advise a marshal so that you are accounted for.
